A Good New Year
to all readers of the mouseblog!

I'm currently tending to stay well wrapped up in my mousehole, as the icy conditions underfoot are not ideal for rodent antics.

Share some of the high and low points of life as a roving rodent musician...
December 2010

Still having problems with my jaw which started in August when I was playing at a wedding in Ireland (disguised as a human being).  My dentist and I believe these are caused by a wisdom tooth which, like the wisdom, hasn't yet made it to the surface.  The Edinburgh Dental Institute aren't convinced and have told me to eat soft food and avoid playing (!) for another 6 weeks.  Very dischuffed and concerned about taking on further commitments under the circs.

October/November 2010

It's that time of year again - Pitlochry Autumn Festival.  It's good to be back here, as the atmosphere is great and the organisational team very friendly and helpful.  Also, they've given me a mention - and a photo - in their brochure and website, so they can do no wrong!! On Thursday evening, one of the Enchanted Forest shuttle bus drivers actually slowed down and pointed me out to his passengers.  Obviously, I am becoming a significant landmark, a bit like Edinburgh Castle or Big Ben!

The weather was stinking for the drive home - but pouring rain after I've retired to my mouse-mobile (a geriatric but much-loved Corsa called Rufus) is greatly to be preferred to the stuff tipping down on me!

Strangely, people seem determined to give me food this year.  One young man - all of about three years old - insisted on dragging his father all the way back from the Hallowe'en marquee just to give me some of his popcorn.  I was supplied with chocolate coins, some girls insisted on buying me a doughnut and a teenage lad returned to offer me spicy doritos after I spurned his chewing gum on the grounds that it would gunk up my instrument.

Thursday of the second week - VERY quiet.  There I am, doing my best to prance enthusiastically round an essentially deserted street when a gentleman approaches.  Might this be a large donation?  An offer of prestigious future work?  More food?  No – he obviously feels that I am in urgent need of help and recommends that I visit his ‘Jesus Saves’ bus, which is parked further down the road!  I’m not sure that even this will do the trick…
