Mouse Costume

The mouse has both a winter and a summer coat.  The winter coat was the original mouse costume, created by Ruth Webster, who now teaches costume design in Scarborough.  In its winter coat, the mouse carries extra padding, which keeps it (very!) warm.  The fur is very soft and slightly curly.

In its summer coat, the mouse looks a little less well-rounded.  It has a bouncy, curly tail.  The ears are less furry and, although the coat looks similar at a distance, it is straighter and more browny-grey in colour when seen up close.  The summer coat prevents the mouse overheating indoors or on sunny summer days.  It was created by Glasgow-based costume and fashion designer Robert Leop.  Contact Robert
Mouse facepaint Mouse Make-up

On dry days, this is predominantly facepaint, as it is easy to take off again with soap and water.  When the mouse is likely to get wet, special facepaint is used.  This is then sealed with some magic stuff which stinks!  This is supposed to render the make-up waterproof (though it is still inclined to rub off on the piccolo lip-plate) and certainly makes it more of a challenge to remove.
